Kaylie’s Journey from Burnout to Broomball Beast
From post-baby exhaustion to competitive broomball, Kaylie’s story is all about resilience, rediscovery, and redefining what fitness really means.
Kaylie and her Daughter, Alma, after she finished rowing a marathon at Studio ME Fitness.
When Kaylie first walked into Studio ME, her goal was simple…
“To get absolutely shredded in 12 weeks and then ride off into the sunset.”
But like many of us, life had thrown her a few curveballs. After having her daughter Alma—who didn’t sleep through the night until she was 3—Kaylie had understandably put her own needs on hold. Add in stressful job changes and the weight of adulting, and workouts became something she wanted but couldn’t prioritize.
“I knew I needed movement back in my life,” she shared. “I was still running races in the warmer months, but winters felt too sedentary. That first $600 bootcamp session felt like a lot… but it also made me accountable.”
Movement for Mental Wellness
For Kaylie, fitness isn’t about the scale—it’s about sanity.
“I’ve always known I’m more well as a human when I have consistent movement,” she says.
But after years of solo efforts and trying to stay on track alone, she needed community. What she didn’t expect? Studio ME becoming her “third place”—a space that wasn’t home or work, but somewhere she belonged.

From Gym Newbie to Athlete
With a lifelong background in fitness and a competitive streak she quickly leaned into broomball in the winters.
“Before Studio ME, I was playing 6 times a year,” she says. “Now I’m playing from September through June—and in 2024, I played every single month of the year for the first time ever.”
What made the difference? Smart, intentional programming from her trainer Alan.
“Alan builds workouts specifically to support my goals on the ice. He’s incredibly attentive and just… an A+ human.”
Shifting Mindsets and Building Strength
But Kaylie’s story isn’t just physical—it’s deeply emotional.
Like many, she once believed working out was about getting smaller. “I used to be all about the burn—more intensity, more calories. But I’ve been working hard to reform my relationship with my body. I’m learning to appreciate what it can do, not just what it looks like.”
That mindset shift hasn’t been easy. She battled immune issues that forced her to slow down, learned to recover with intention (even when it frustrated her), and—most importantly—stopped trying to earn her food through movement.
“Now I push myself because I want to see what I’m capable of—not because I feel like I have to.”

Support Makes the Difference
When she injured her back during a broomball game, the Studio ME team had her back—literally.
“I texted Alan that I couldn’t move and had to cancel. Fifteen minutes later, Dr. Bailey messaged me to schedule cupping. They worked together to modify my workouts so I could stay moving safely. I only missed one workout. If I were at a regular gym, I would’ve quit for two weeks.”
Community, Connection, and a Little Competition
What keeps Kaylie coming back? The people.
From training with her “gym bestie” Carrie to pushing each other on the rower with Bob, Joe, and Courtney, she thrives in a space where everyone shows up for themselves—and each other.
And yes, she’s even recruited her husband and in-laws (now in their 70s!) to join. “It’s incredible seeing what Studio ME can be for people in all stages of life.”
Thinking about getting started?
Kaylie puts it perfectly:
“If someone is curious about Studio ME, they’re already halfway there.”
