Bootcamp vs. Private Training: What’s Better for You in Your 40s?
If you’re in your 40s, you’ve probably noticed that the “just push harder” approach you used in your 20s doesn’t quite work anymore. Recovery takes longer, motivation dips in waves, and time feels… scarce.
So when you finally carve out an hour for yourself, the question becomes: what’s the best way to use it?
At Studio ME Fitness, we hear this all the time from busy professionals who want to feel strong, confident, and pain-free — without wasting time or spinning their wheels. And the truth is, the best training style depends on what your body needs right now and how you like to be held accountable.
Let’s break down the differences between our three main programs — Bootcamp, Semi-Private Training, and Private Training — and help you figure out which one fits you best.

Bootcamp (small group training): High Energy, High Accountability, Big Fun
Think of Bootcamp as your all-in-one workout party.
You’ll sweat, laugh, and push your limits in group workouts of up to 15 people. Classes combine strength and conditioning (think: kettlebells, TRX, rowers, sleds, and heart rate tracking) so you’re never bored — and you’re definitely never alone.
What’s different with our small group training is that you never have to sign up for a class and we do REAL strength training in the session. Not just lift 10-20lb and call it “strength training”. You’ll be with the same group and same coach. Your spot is reserved for you and sessions are capped.
You can choose between Monday/Tuesday and Wednesday/Thursday sessions, with Friday as a bonus day if you want to go the extra mile. Every class is coach-led, efficient, and scalable to your fitness level.
Bootcamp also includes:
- ✅ Fit3D body scans to track progress
- ✅ Heart rate monitoring
- ✅ Unlimited large group classes
- ✅ Baseline testing and quarterly challenges
Why it’s great: Bootcamp is perfect if you thrive in a community setting, want structure, and love the energy of working out with others. It’s an incredible value, especially for those who want variety and motivation.
Where it falls short: Bootcamp workouts are built for the group — not for your individual goals. If you’re coming back from injury, have specific strength targets, or need tailored progressions, you might need more personalized attention.
Private Training: The Gold Standard for Customization
If Bootcamp is a party, Private Training is the VIP experience.
You’ll work one-on-one with a coach who builds a fully customized program around your goals, schedule, and fitness level. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, getting back into shape, or aiming for peak performance, every rep, rest period, and movement is designed for you.
With Private Training, you’ll get:
- ✅ A custom plan tailored to your body and goals
- ✅ Flexible scheduling and make-up sessions
- ✅ 1-on-1 accountability and expert guidance
- ✅ Fit3D scans, heart rate tracking, and quarterly progress reviews
Why it’s great: Nothing beats the level of attention and flexibility you get here. If you’ve struggled with consistency or injury, this format helps you build strength safely and confidently — at your own pace.
Where it falls short: The biggest tradeoff is cost and availability. Private sessions are more of an investment, and scheduling can be trickier if your coach’s book fills up.

Semi-Private Training: The Missing Middle Ground
Here’s the best-kept secret in fitness: you don’t need 1-on-1 attention every time to see amazing results.
That’s where Semi-Private Training shines.
You’ll train in a small group (up to 6 people), each with your own personalized STRENGTH PLAN based on your assessment, goals, and current fitness level — but you’ll still get the energy and motivation of a small, supportive crew.
Semi-Private Training includes:
- ✅ Individualized strength programming (but not full custom)
- ✅ Some flexibility in scheduling and make-up sessions joining other groups
- ✅ Fit3D scans, heart rate tracking, and baseline testing
- ✅ Goal setting and quarterly challenges
Your coach keeps a close eye on your form, progress, and performance, adjusting your plan as you go — without you needing to guess what to do next.
Why it’s great: Semi-private offers the sweet spot of accountability, structure, and personal attention — at a fraction of the cost of private training. You still get the individualized touch you need to move safely and effectively, plus the fun and connection that comes from training alongside others who are in the same boat.
Where it falls short: If you prefer undivided attention, or if you have very specific rehab needs, you may still benefit from starting with a few private sessions before transitioning here.
So Which One Is “Best”?
Here’s the truth — there’s no single “best” option. It’s about the right fit for where you are now.
