From Self-Taught to Supported: Why Studio ME Made All the Difference — Matt’s Story

At Studio ME, we believe strength is more than just physical. It’s the commitment to show up for yourself, the courage to start again, and the mindset to grow at any age. Our November Member of the Month, Matt, embodies all of that and more.

Why He Started…

Matt came to Studio ME with a simple but powerful goal: to start moving again. As someone who had always lived an active lifestyle, the shift into parenthood and the realities of being in his 40s made it harder to find time and structure around fitness.

"I’ve always been active, but the realization that I’m not 25 anymore became very obvious," Matt shared. "I wanted to stay strong and limber into my later years. Wrestling with my 10-year-old is a great joy."

His goal had been on his mind for years, but the biggest barrier? Prioritizing himself.

Finding the Right Fit

It was Matt’s wife, a longtime Studio ME member, who encouraged him to give the studio a try. At the time, he wasn’t exercising regularly and had no formal training. His background was all self-taught: lifting weights in the basement with his dad, mountain biking, trail running, rock climbing, kite boarding.

What he was missing was structure. Community. Coaching.

So he showed up and what he discovered surprised him.

"I felt pretty confident and very positive. After a couple of sessions, I was very humbled," he said. He realized that while he had always "done" fitness, there was a lot he didn’t know about movement, form, and long-term balance.

"I had always thought I knew what I was doing when it came to fitness. So, not really a struggle, but more of an awakening."

His solution? Keep showing up.

Stronger in Every Way

Today, Matt feels stronger and more balanced than ever.

"You should see me carry in the groceries or move some furniture," he joked. "Really learning proper form for all aspects of life."

And while the physical results speak for themselves, it's the Studio ME community that stands out most:

"The community at Studio ME is like nothing I've ever experienced. Everyone is welcomed with sincere smiles and positivity. Whether you’re here to get in and out, chat with members, or get some coach feedback — it’s all there."

Advice from Matt

Matt is a low-key ambassador for Studio ME. "I have a whole pitch that I give to anyone that seems like they may be receptive,"

"If you have any interest in getting the most full-body workout with the best coaches, the best atmosphere — Studio ME is it. Just come take a class."

Congrats, Matt! Thanks for bringing your positive energy, humor, and humility to the Studio ME community. You make us stronger. We can’t wait to see what your 50s bring!
